Currants

Black currants contain 5 times as much vitamin C as oranges by weight. They are truly gorgeous fruits, resembling rubies when red and ripening to a deep, sweet black color. They are highly esteemed in Europe for jams, syrups, baking and dried like raisins. They grow to 4-5 feet. Plant two varieties for the best production. Red Currants are typically sweeter than the black currants and can be eaten fresh as well as processed.  USDA zones 3-8.
