Gala is one of the rare apples that is praised by both commercial growers and fruit connoisseurs. It has crisp, dense flesh with a rich aroma and a great snap. The fruit ripens to a glowing red-orange color overlaid with darker red stripes. An excellent quality, sweet apple that ripens early. Tolerates hot climates very well. 500-600 chill hours. USDA zones 4-10; Sunset zones 2-9, 14-22, 30, 34-43.
